Contains a small sampling of business records of this Oakland, Calif. bookstore, chiefly consisting of bibliographical notes,
both in binder and card file formats. Includes two scrapbooks of clippings, 1976 and 1978, working copies of master catalog
lists for 1983 and 1993-1994, sample inventories and a few advertisements. Also contains galleys for Holmes publications,
including the Memoirs of Edward Bosqui, with foreword by Harold C. Holmes; Gold, a play in three acts by Herbert Heron and
Jack London, with manuscript preparation by James E. Sisson III; and, The fiction of Jack London, compiled and annotated by
Dale L. Walker, with research and editing by James E. Sisson, III.

Founded in 1894 in San Francisco, California by Robert C. Holmes, the Holmes Book Company was well known for running and owning
bookstores throughout San Francisco and Oakland. Specializing in antiquarian books, its last store in Oakland, which was the
oldest continuously running antiquarian bookstore in the state, closed in 1995.
